Berkeley Lodge 250th Banner Dedication Meeting 24th March 2022

Berkeley Lodge celebrated our 250^th meeting on 24^th March which was a wonderful event. Our APGM, W.Bro. John Taylor ably assisted by W.Bro. Gareth Lewis the PDepGDC were in attendance as well as the provincial team. The banner was donated by Berkeley Chapter which was re-invented with the Berkeley Lodge Consecration Details. The ceremoney was executed by the Provincial Dedication team with the assistance of our WM and Wardens. The evening continued with the initiation of our newest Brother Alexander Marinov by the WM, W.Bro. Emil Talev assisted by W.Bro. Dev Sharma. The evening concluded with a magificent Festive Board by the TDMC.

Berkeley Lodge Meeting 27th January 2022

We had our 249^th meeting in January and whilst we were not able to raise Bro. Michael Catapano and our speaker for a lecture instead, W.Bro. David Pearson, contracted Covid the day before, our very own Director of Ceremonies, W.Bro. Raghu Sharma, gave an excellent rendition of the lecture on “The Festive Board and Masonic Fire”. This was not only well received but very interesting indeed. Thank you W.Bro. David for putting the lecture together. Sorry you were not able to deliver it and trust you are all well again now.

Presentation of a Simon Thoday Memorial Maul

W.Bro. Sid Palmer, brother-in-law of V.W.Bro. Simon Thoday Dep PGM, presented a specially made Maul to Berkeley Lodge into the hands of our WM, W.Bro. Emil Talev.

W.Bro. Sid gave a very nice presentation outlining W.Bro. Simon’s career in Freemasonry and Berkeley Lodge in particular.

He said ….. “Worshipful Master, it is my honour and privilege to present to you, on behalf of the Brethren, a Commemorative Gavel in remembrance of the V. W. Brother Simon Thoday who as you know was an outstanding member of our Lodge in many ways.”

“Simon was initiated into our Lodge in 1973 and after working overseas for some time eventually became Master in 1999 and again in 2009. He also joined other branches of Masonry including Royal Arch, Mark and more recently Knights Templar. After several promotions within the Province he was at the time of his demise the Deputy Provincial Master of Middlesex. A little known fact was that he was also a Freeman of the City of London. Throughout all his Masonic career he never once forgot that his real love was Berkeley Lodge and he always attempted to promote the Lodge. The Brethren therefore feel that this Gavel is a fitting tribute to his memory and should always appear at the Masters Chair at each meeting.”
